Harris Mountains - 2013An award from the RSW Annual Exhibition financed a trip to Lewis staying beside Loch Erishort. The painting focuses on the shapes and colours of the mountains on Harris to the south.
Stephens Arch, Eday, Orkney - 2018From Orkney sketches,2017 this variable edition was difficult with the foreshortening. However the end result maintaind the airy quality of the arch with the wash of the sea. Limited colours used.
Upper Loch Torridon - 2018Painted from sketches made in April 2017. At the Annual Exhibition in 2018, this watercolour was awarded the RSW Prize for Watercolour to mark the 70th Birthday of our Patron The Prince Charles.
Rora Head, Hoy - 2018Taken from Orkney sketchbooks trip in November 2017. Sketches made crossing the Pentland Firth to Stromness. Approaching Hoy. Weather was deteriorating with black rain coming in.
Sound of Jura - 2015West coast sailing over a number of years gave rise to drawing offshore. Much information was gathered this way with good results, both local and further afield.
Red Head, Eday, Orkney - 2017Developed from a drawing made during a visit in November 2017 these spectacular cliffs at the far end of this small island were remarkable in their isolation and their rich colour. A conservative composition focusing on the cliffs, water surface and part of the Calf.
Passing Arran, Squalls Following - 2017Worked up from sketches made sailing by ferry from Ardrossan to Campbeltown or Brodick, this amazing island is inspiring in its wealth of shapes ,texture colours and moods. For me best seen from a distance although that may change. Limited colour.
Luce Bay - 2013At a point on the south coast of Scotland Luce Bay and the Mull of Galloway are amongst my favourite spots for working. This watercolour focuses on the breadth of the bay accentuated by the steep drop to the sea, close observation of the sky and movement on the water.
Loch Torridon, Wester Ross - 2017Painted from sketches made during a visit to the area in April 2017. The effect of the cloud passing across the mountains causing them to come into view and disappear accentuated the length of the loch.
