Ebb Tide - Etching and Aquatint - 2016Coastal edges have always provided an endless source of subject matter and Ebb Tide is one example where shapes textures and movement interplay to create an interesting composition. Here in a variable edition a little colour has been added to the plate. The area is Kilcreggan beach.

Structure and Rain - Mezzotint - 2018Mezzotint is more labour intensive regarding plate preparation but is hugely rewarding in execution and well suited to light and dark. This composition was based on sketches at a construction site in Glasgow during heavy rain. The swathes of rain were visible in the street lighting against the skeletal building structure.

Making for Ornes, Nordland - Etching and Carborundum - 2018 - 16x25 insDeveloped from quick sketches sailing from Kirkenes to Bergen in Norway in April 2012 as the ship wove through islands off the coast . The sharp contrasts between snow and ice, the dark cliffs and skerries and the emerging daylight were not to be missed.

Blizzard, Kirkwall Bay - Woodcut - 2018 - 12 x 18 insFrom sketches made visiting Orkney in November 2017. Working in strong winds with icy rain and snow I felt that the small cuts made in a woodcut would be an appropriate response. Four or five colours were overprinted on Madrid Litho paper and printed using a wooden spoon.

Black Craig, Orkney Woodcut - 2018 - 12x18 insFrom sketches made on Orkney in November 2017. Black Craig looks onto the Atlantic a couple of miles from Stromness. The surge of the sea,the high cliffs and the feeling of movement were what I was after here. Several colours overlaid and printed on Madrid Litho paper with a wooden spoon.
